The Southwest Florida Local Emergency Planning Committee is mandated by law and supports regional hazardous materials planning, coordination, training, and public information. Congress passed SARA Title III in 1986, also known as the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act, to increase public and private efforts to reduce risks associated with hazardous chemicals.
What the LEPC Does
Emergency Planning
Develops plans to support rapid response to chemical accidents, spills, and hazardous materials releases.
Public Right-to-Know
Improves access to information about hazardous chemicals present in the community.
Regional Coordination
Brings together government, industry, emergency responders, and community partners.
Training & Exercises
Supports hazardous materials training, workshops, and emergency preparedness exercises.
