Business Disaster Preparedness Council

A public/private partnership to assist businesses in planning for

and recovering from natural disasters and emergencies.

The Business Disaster Preparedness Council, formerly known as BOARD (Business Organizations Active in Response to Disasters) was created in 1998 to help businesses prepare for and recover from disasters and emergencies.  Membership in the Council is open to all businesses, business related organizations, and government agencies that are interested in reducing the impacts disasters have on the region’s economy.

The Council encourages business owners to carefully consider each disaster type and take steps to reduce or eliminate the negative impacts they would cause to their business.  Being prepared can mean the difference between a business surviving a disaster or being permanently shutdown. Preparedness can also significantly reduce the time a business is closed and unable to service its customers, pay employees and make sales.

The Council meets on a quarterly basis to exchange information on how businesses can protect themselves from disasters.  Some meetings involve presentations by disaster-response firms that guide businesses on how to prevent disasters from occurring or from shutting them down.
