The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council office is located in downtown Fort Myers. The two-story building, with over 14,000 square feet of office, meeting and storage space, and a parking lot that accommodates 82 vehicles, provides the Council with its own home for the first time since it was created in 1973. According to David Y. Burr, Executive Director, “From 1989 through 2004 we rented space at the Lee County Electric Co-Op building in North Fort Myers, and prior to that we rented office space in Fort Myers. Now, we have a place to call our own. That means we are able to serve the governments and citizens from throughout our six county jurisdiction in new ways, without the problems related to parking, meeting space and after-hours access that we’ve had to overcome in the past as renters.”
