Economic Development

The Council spearheads a number of initiatives designed to promote investment in our communities and enhance the economic conditions of the citizens who make their homes here. The rural areas of the region have traditionally received the most economic development support from the Council, but in 2005 even some of the less rural areas received help.


Big Water Heritage Trail >>
Read and learn more about our successful project (originally implemented in 2003). This project is a heritage trail (a driving trail) that identifies, links, and marks sites of historical, cultural, natural, recreational and educational importance to the area.



Economic Development District (EDD) >>
In 1992, the Council was designated an Economic Development District by the Economic Development Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The Council staffs the Southwest Florida Regional Economic Development Coalition, which includes representatives from the Region and was established to address the area’s economic problems and challenges from a regional perspective.
