Brownfields Program
What is a Brownfield?A brownfield site is “real property, the expansion, redevelopment or reuse of which may be complicated by the presence or potential presence of a hazardous substance, pollutant or contaminant.” Brownfield sites are typically characterized as having unknown environmental liabilities which often prevent communities, developers and investors from restoring these properties to productive uses and revitalizing impacted neighborhoods.
Southwest Florida Brownfields Program
The Southwest Florida Regional Planning Council (SWFRPC) is currently working towards the creation of a regional program that will help local governments conduct environmental site assessment and/or cleanup activities on petroleum-contaminated Brownfield sites.
